Female Entrepreneurs Needed for Panel This Sunday!

The Peace at Home Family Shelter offers an intensive series of employment and self-employment seminars for survivors of domestic violence. It is our goal that no woman should have to return to an abuser because she is unable to financially support an independent lifestyle. This weekend, February 17th and 18th, we are holding our first Phase 3 entrepreneurship Seminar at the Jones Center for Families. We are looking for 3-4 women entrepreneurs to speak to the women about their experiences and make themselves available for a brief Q&A session afterwards. Sunday the 18th between 3 and 4 pm. I apologize for the late notice, but any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Your contributions will be recognized by Peace at Home Family Shelter in future press releases about the program. Thank you for your support.

Focus on the heart in February, during American Heart Month

February is a time to celebrate heart-felt love. It's also American Heart Month, a time to protect our loved ones by raising awareness about heart disease. Now there's a simple way you can help support our efforts this month. For a limited time, our Go Red For Women sponsors are offering special American Heart Month items. Part of the proceeds from the sale of each American Heart Month item will go to support our work in 2007. View sponsor offers now.

Friday Coffee Networking Updates

A new restaurant that is worth checking out. We've got lots of great new restaurants but one you don't hear much about is Fish City Grill at Pinnacle Hills Promenade. We had dinner there on Friday and we got fantastic service and the menu isn’t the same old food every other restaurant serves. The atmosphere is great and the prices are reasonable too. While you're over there, stop in the new Lifeway Christian Book Store. It just opened this last week. One of my husband's friends said it was the best Christian bookstore she had ever been in.

People can now sign up to receive this reminder. They can go to our networking page at the Soar with Eagles website at http://www.soarhigher.com/NetworkingGroups.htm to sign up. If you’d like to update your profile, you can Click here to update your information.

SIFE Business Leaders Lecture Series Presents Inspiring Entrepreneur February 15

Not attending the chamber banquet this Thursday? Here's a great alternative with an unforgettable speaker who is an inspirational entrepreneur and it’s free!

Students in Free Enterprise presents Janice Bryant Howroyd on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. at the NWACC Shewmaker Center. Free to the public.

Janice Bryant Howroyd, motivated by the supportive environments of her own youth, firmly believes that people perform best when their personal strengths are developed and challenged. Her theory is proven true by the 25 plus years she has driven a highly successful business.

Today ACT-1 is leading the industry as the largest staffing agency in America that is woman/minority-owned. "Empowerment is a core value of how I do business today," says the CEO. "It has never been just about making a match to make some money. Empowering people is a blessing and a responsibility." In this millennium, Janice knows the business world must be more innovative, as it is more crowded, more competitive, and more perilous than ever. She thrives on maintaining an edge, expanding into new markets, and creating opportunity for mentoring smaller businesses as vendors.

High-Octane Networking Power Lunch February 20

Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines. Looking for a referral accelerator? The High-Octane Networking Power Lunch
revs it up! This event starts off with a motivational message by a professional speaker author and then we move into an hour of SPEED NETWORKING -- the opportunity to have at least 10 one-on-one five-minute conversations with other attendees. Join us on Tuesday, February 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Embassy Suites in Rogers.

Corporate trainer and speaker Willie Johnson of J.B Hunt Transport will present “Service Pays: The Combination for Killer Customer Service.” Great customer service isn’t a department -- it is a simple philosophy that everyone in an organization needs to embrace, regardless of their position and/or title, and it can be broken down into four basic parts. These four points could be considered the starting point — the basics. By understanding these very simple concepts, you will be well on your way to providing "Killer Customer Care.” Want to know what those four parts are? Join us on Fat Tuesday for the High-Octane Networking Power Lunch.

Event includes the Embassy Suites lunch buffet for just $28. Willie will be on hand after the event to answer questions. We were the first to bring speed networking to the area and there is still no other event like it in Northwest Arkansas.

Seating is limited. Register and pay online at

Reconnecting youth with families, school and communities is the primary focus of these programs and learning artistic skills is the process. Come be a part of this artistic process! Art is all around us!
YouthCAN! Art Explosions Community Imagination Studio to Host Local Student Art Contest

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (January 22, 2007) - Calling all student artists! YouthCAN! Art Explosions Community Imagination Studio announced today it is holding a local student art contest in April. The contest is in partnership with the Winthrop Rockefeller Center of the University of Arkansas System’s 2nd Annual “Arts in the Air” statewide art contest. Students in Benton, Washington and Madison Counties will be exhibiting their work at the Art Explosions Community Imagination Studio and competing for a chance to display their work at the statewide “Arts in the Air” Festival at the Winthrop Rockefeller Center on Petit Jean Mountain in May.

The theme of this year’s contest is ART ALL AROUND US! Art is said to be in the eye of the beholder so this year Arkansas’ students have been challenged to look at their world through the eyes of an artist. By carefully observing all of the natural and other images that surround them every day, organizers think students will see that art really is in the air and everywhere.

Specifically, students have been asked to create a piece of artwork that reflects some part of the Arkansas they see every day such as a beautiful landscape, an unusual building or an interesting person. Students need to be able to explain briefly how the artwork was inspired by what they see around them every day. The contest is open to all Arkansas students – kindergarten through 12th grade. The art will be judged in grade based divisions and will be evaluated on representation of the theme, creativity, composition/design, craftsmanship and overall impression/visual effect.

Artwork from students in Benton, Washington and Madison Counties must be submitted to YouthCAN! Art Explosions Community Imagination Studio located at 3480 N. Thompson, Suite 3 in Springdale between March 1, 2007 and April 5, 2007. At the local contest, students will be competing to be named official finalists. The finalists’ artwork will be shipped to the Winthrop Rockefeller Center to be exhibited and judged as part of the statewide “Arts in the Air” Festival May 4-5, 2007. At the awards ceremony on May 5, cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded to the First, Second and Third Place winners in each division: grades K-2; grades 3-5; grades 6-8; grades 9-12. Honorable mentions will receive ribbons.

For information on the local contest please contact Dave Metzger or Barbara Price Davis at YouthCAN! Art Explosions Community Imagination Studio at 479-725-2456 or 479-927-2020. An entry packet with contest guidelines and an official entry form is available online at www.wrcenter.net.
