Call of the Wild Benefit for Ozark Natural Science Center

Call of the Wild is the annual benefit event for the Ozark Natural Science Center (www.onsc.us).

Date:
Saturday, April 24, 2010
Time:
6:00pm - 9:00pm
Location:
3201 Pinnacle Hills Parkway, Rogers AR 72758

This year's theme, "Owls in Wonderland," reflects the magic that more than 4,000 school children will experience this year during life-altering visits to ONSC.

Despite being located in rural Madison county on more than 500 acres of Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission land, the Ozark Natural Science Center impacts the lives of thousands of people throughout Northwest Arkansas and beyond. From school programs to adult and family weekends, summer camps, language immersion events, corporate retreats and sustainability programs, ONSC is a very special place.

Call of the Wild is unique in its reputation as one of the most fun benefit events in the region. Music from Three Penny Acre, beverages from Boulevard Brewing, a live and silent auction of very unique items and some special surprises throughout the evening mixed with a laid-back vibe make this a can't miss evening.

Please join us by purchasing your individual tickets ($100) or considering a corporate sponsorship of $1,000 - $25,000 and inviting friends, family or colleagues to join you in supporting a Northwest Arkansas legacy.

For more information, contact event coordinator Rachel Harris or call ONSC directly at 479-789-2754. Tickets will be available online preceding the event.

Documentary on environmentally-damaging gas 'fracturing' Tuesday night

Tomorrow, Tuesday 16 March, the documentary film "Split Estate" will be shown at the University of Arkansas Law School Courtroom (upstairs) at 6:00 pm. Come join area leaders and experts for the screening and informative discussion of the environmental impact of gas drilling and dumping of associated hazardous wastes across north-central Arkansas.

This hour-long documentary shows how the type of drilling used here (called hydraulic fracturing, or hydro-fracking) endangers water wells and drinking water sources over a wide area of the state. This technique is currently being used to extract gas beneath some of our state parks and wildlife areas, and federally-owned national forests.

For additional information please contact Joyce Hale, member of Sierra Club's Chapter Conservation Committee, at 479-527-2777.

The Wiggles are about to release their first-ever live-concert movie for preschoolers, and we're giving local moms a chance to win free tickets to the show. It’s called “The Wiggles - BIG, BIG SHOW in the Round!” And it’s going to appear at the Malco Razorback Cinema in Fayetteville only on March 20th and 21st.

We’ve got 10 tickets to give away to the big Wiggles movie, which means we’ll choose 5 winners at random out of our online hat. Those 5 moms will each get two tickets — one for themselves and one for their preschooler or toddler. (If you need more tickets than that, they’ll be available for purchase at the theater box office.)

The 5 winners will also get two coupons to use at Cold Stone Creamery, located across the street from the Razorback Malco Cinema in Fayetteville. The coupons will get you and your little one a free small shake and a free ice-cream with a mix-in, courtesy of Cold Stone Creamery.
