Great Capital Raising Links from Cecillee Duncan

From PWN Member Cecillee Duncan:

Raising Start Up Capital for your Business:

I've listed a link to some articles with good ideas. This should get the juices flowing.

http://www.inc.com/guides/finance/20797.html

http://www.sba.gov/services/financialassistance/sbaloantopics/microloans/index.html

Below are microfinance websites that connect lenders to borrowers. Works off the mircolending concept.. You may actually end up getting several small loans from individuals that will be combined into one. You need to read the fine print on each of these websites. A google search using "Personal Lending" brings up a list of more sites like them. Some are better than others, researching them is up to you. I've heard Virgin Money and Prosper are good places to start.

If any of you have an interest in talking more about the Silpada opportunity or you think you would like to host a show, let me know. I do host Silpada open houses from time to time. And there will be one going on at my place of residence this Sunday from 2-4pm. If you want to come and bring a friend, that would be great. There will be several incredible women there and I'd love to include you on the list. If you're interested, shoot me an email, and I will send you the driving directions. Remember, No Pressure, No Presentation. Just show up and have a good time. You can visit www.mysilpada.com/cecillee.duncan to check out the rest of the catalog as well.

Hope to see you soon.

First, I would like to thank all of you who have opened this email without deleting it. I am hopeful you will read it in its entirety and consider opening your heart a bit to help someone who is close to many of us at the police department. Recently, Ashley Pound, a city employee and emergency dispatcher has learned her son, Gunner Pound, has been diagnosed with leukemia.

Personally, as a parent, I have never had to face such tragic news, and I can hardly comprehend what sort of emotional battles Ashley, Gunner and their family must be facing. To continue to wake up each day and function - to take care of a family and to remain optimistic for a young boy who does not comprehend what is happening to him - to his body, is a burden I am doubtful I could likely bear. In addition to it all, Ashley is trying to remain positive and healthy, taking responsibility for her unborn baby who is on the way. Despite all of the challenges facing the Pound family, they have asked for nothing other than the support of prayer.

Many believe prayer can go a long way - that divine intervention can tackle and solve any problem, which I too believe. Though, often at times, I think we are used as the vessels to bring the hopes of prayer to fruition - that we as people have the ability to promote change through our actions as a direct result of prayer. And though we do not have the gift or ability to heal, we do have the ability to comfort and ease burdens in a way that can be extremely meaningful to a family in need.

The LAST thing the Pound family should be considering right now are the financial burdens associated with making a child healthy. Gunner is currently making regular trips to the Children's Hospital in Little Rock, and his next bout of weekly treatments will likely take place at St. Jude's in Memphis, Tennessee. Gas money alone for these trips can take quite a financial toll.

With this in mind, we have created a bank account - the "Gunner Pound Medical Fund" through Arvest Bank. It's such a small gesture compared to all of the challenges Gunner will be facing for likely, a very long time. I think it would be safe to say that all of us have it within us to ease the burdens of a young child in some way. We all have that sense of compassion and humanity to reach out and actively make a difference in the life of a little boy. But what I'm asking, and what I am hopeful of accomplishing is convincing all of you to go beyond the mere thought of sympathy, and motivate you take action - a small amount of action that may collectively make a HUGE difference in the lives of the Pound family. The next time you are near an Arvest Bank, if you can remember to deposit whatever you are comfortable giving into the Gunner Pound Medical Fund, I think we can build upon that. Imagine if each and every person reading this email would simply deposit just the change in their pocket ... just the amount of money that is to the RIGHT of the decimal point on their paycheck - if we ALL did this, collectively, we would begin to make some things much easier for Gunner.

Okay, if you are willing to assist financially, there are three easy ways to do this. First, you may make a direct deposit into the “Gunner Pound Medical Fund” account at ANY Arvest Bank. It is not necessary to know the account number, only the account name. Secondly, if you are currently an Arvest customer, you may transfer funds from your account directly into the “Gunner Pound Medical Fund” account, if you wish. Finally, you can give your donation to any member of the police department, and he/she will forward it to the appropriate person to make the deposit.

Well, if you've made it this far, again, I have to thank you. Finally, if it is impossible for you to offer a financial gift, I am hopeful that you will take just a quiet moment each day, just a few seconds, and offer the support of prayer to Gunner and his family.

Finally, and I know this is a lot of information, and I have asked for quite a bit, but if you could find a way to share this with others in hopes of someone out there reading it that may be willing to help, I know that it would be greatly appreciated.

Again, thank you for your time.

As most of you know I have been volunteering for the past 2 years for the International Festival. We have a very EASY fundraiser coming up this Thursday. This is easy because I am not asking you to do anything other than eat one of your meals at Mamma Fu's on Thursday. How easy is that?

Here's the scoop:

Anyone who prints out the this flyer (http://www.scribemarketing.com/pwn/9thAnnualInternationalFestival.pdf) and shows it to their server at Mamma Fu's on Thursday, May 14th, will be helping the International Festival. This offer is good ONLY today, THURSDAY, MAY 14TH. Any meal purchased between 11am and 9pm will qualify. The International Festival will receive up to 25% of your ticket total!! Didn't I tell you it was easy? Feel free to print out as many as you like and invite all of your friends and family.

The 9th Annual International Festival will be held on June 6th, 2009, at the Frisco Station Mall parking lot. Everyone is invited to attend this free family friendly event. There will be a wide variety of different cultures represented by food, fashion, booths, music and lots more! It has been hard to obtain sponsors for this event so we are trying a different approach to raising money to continue to offer this event to Northwest Arkansas.

We still have some booths available. $100 for a 10X10 booth ($50 for non-profits). Contact me if you are interested.

Thanks bunches!!

Homewatch Caregivers Eye on Health

Like the information here? Sign up to receive updates here:

Each month, Homewatch Caregivers provides information and educational resources on home and health care issues for our clients and trusted partners in the Northwest Arkansas community. This month's Eye on Health focuses on arthritis and mental health awareness.
Arthritis Awareness: Understanding, Coping and Caring

It begins as an ache in a specific joint, and can snowball into pain so severe that one can barely move on certain days. Arthritis is a common condition that can affect one's every day activities. The ability to lift, bend, grasp objects, and even walk are impaired or disabled by this chronic condition. Often, the joint pain reduces a person's quality of life, simply because they cannot perform the seemingly simple tasks of shopping, cleaning, or moving objects.

Severe forms of arthritis can be disabling and can affect many aspects of daily living. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of every three Americans (an estimated 70 million people) is affected by one of the more than 100 types of arthritis.

Read complete article...
The Truth About Arthritis
"Feeling fine yesterday...why so tired today?"

There are daily variations in the duration and severity of symptoms for arthritis. People living with the disease face constant challenges of changing capabilities because of the symptoms of arthritis. The inconsistency of arthritis can even lead some people to believe the disease is "all in your head," when in fact it varies day to day.

Myth: Arthritis is an old person's disease.
Fact: Arthritis can happen at any age.

Myth: Arthritis is induced by cold, wet climate.
Fact: Climate is neither the cause nor the cure. Weather does not affect the course of arthritis, but may affect symptoms. Some arthritis patients may be more physically sensitive to temperature changes, barometric pressure, and humidity than others.

Myth: Arthritis is caused by a poor diet.
Fact: It is certain that a nutritious, well-balanced diet and healthy weight improves health and wellness for everyone. There is no scientific evidence that specific foods prevent or cause arthritis.

Myth: Arthritis can be cured.
Fact: Much has been done to find better treatments for this disease, but a cure has yet to be found.

Five SMALL Tips to Become a Better Networker

In today’s turbulent economy, more and more Americans are looking for employment, while jobs are becoming harder to find. Although mailing a cover letter and a resume to Human Resources may have worked in the past, today’s job market requires a new approach. Generic is out, personal is in. For job seekers on the prowl, networking is more important than ever and we can show you how to harness the power of small to get things done:

Unplug. Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter are all great resources for networking and job hunting, but we still find that nothing beats a face-to-face meeting. So, next time you message one of your online friends, ask them if they would like to get together in person. Even a quick, fifteen minute coffee run can prove much more valuable than a month’s worth of wall posts.

Pay attention. Whether you are meeting someone for the first time or catching up with an old acquaintance, take note of the small cues people send you in their body language and facial expressions. Careful observation can help you guide your conversation in the right direction. While you’re at it, make an effort to remember the little details they reveal, such as a favorite hobby or a beloved pet. Next time you see them you can ask them about it.

Get personal. Email is great for quick correspondence, but who doesn’t love getting a note card in the mail? Let your connections know you are thinking of them by jotting down a quick note and sending it the old fashioned way. If you saw an interesting article you thought they might like, clip it out and stuff it inside. Next time you run into each other, it will give you something to talk about.

Ask questions. In today’s tech-obsessed culture, we’re all a little starved for conversation. So, give the other person a chance to talk by asking questions. Your curiosity will be rewarded by the positive impression you leave.

Go the extra inch. The best way to make your mark on someone’s memory is to do a little more than is expected. If a colleague mentions a project they are working on, offer them your expertise… free of charge. You’ll not only help them out, you’ll have a chance to showcase your skills. And, you’ll have an extra reference for future business opportunities.

Simple but often incredibly intimidating, networking is one of the most powerful skills women in business can possess. The key to success is to start small. If you are naturally shy, dip your toes into the water and little by little, wade into the deeper waters. Before too long, you will be swimming with the big fish.
