THIS IS MY GREAT NEPHEW, (my sister's grandson), and they are having a benefit lunch, pie & misc. auction on June 15, 2009 at the John Powell Senior Center to help pay for his medical expenses.
Lunch from 11am to 1pm $5.00 (chili & cornbread)
then from 1pm to 3pm is the auction.

First, I would like to thank all of you who have opened this email without deleting it. I am hopeful you will read it in its entirety and consider opening your heart a bit to help someone who is close to many of us at the police department. Recently, Ashley Pound, a city employee and emergency dispatcher has learned her son, Gunner Pound, has been diagnosed with leukemia.
Personally, as a parent, I have never had to face such tragic news, and I can hardly comprehend what sort of emotional battles Ashley, Gunner and their family must be facing. To continue to wake up each day and function - to take care of a family and to remain optimistic for a young boy who does not comprehend what is happening to him - to his body, is a burden I am doubtful I could likely bear. In addition to it all, Ashley is trying to remain positive and healthy, taking responsibility for her unborn baby who is on the way. Despite all of the challenges facing the Pound family, they have asked for nothing other than the support of prayer.
Many believe prayer can go a long way - that divine intervention can tackle and solve any problem, which I too believe. Though, often at times, I think we are used as the vessels to bring the hopes of prayer to fruition - that we as people have the ability to promote change through our actions as a direct result of prayer. And though we do not have the gift or ability to heal, we do have the ability to comfort and ease burdens in a way that can be extremely meaningful to a family in need.
The LAST thing the Pound family should be considering right now are the financial burdens associated with making a child healthy. Gunner is currently making regular trips to the Children's Hospital in Little Rock, and his next bout of weekly treatments will likely take place at St. Jude's in Memphis, Tennessee. Gas money alone for these trips can take quite a financial toll.
With this in mind, we have created a bank account - the "Gunner Pound Medical Fund" through Arvest Bank. It's such a small gesture compared to all of the challenges Gunner will be facing for likely, a very long time. I think it would be safe to say that all of us have it within us to ease the burdens of a young child in some way. We all have that sense of compassion and humanity to reach out and actively make a difference in the life of a little boy. But what I'm asking, and what I am hopeful of accomplishing is convincing all of you to go beyond the mere thought of sympathy, and motivate you take action - a small amount of action that may collectively make a HUGE difference in the lives of the Pound family. The next time you are near an Arvest Bank, if you can remember to deposit whatever you are comfortable giving into the Gunner Pound Medical Fund, I think we can build upon that. Imagine if each and every person reading this email would simply deposit just the change in their pocket ... just the amount of money that is to the RIGHT of the decimal point on their paycheck - if we ALL did this, collectively, we would begin to make some things much easier for Gunner.
Okay, if you are willing to assist financially, there are three easy ways to do this. First, you may make a direct deposit into the “Gunner Pound Medical Fund” account at ANY Arvest Bank. It is not necessary to know the account number, only the account name. Secondly, if you are currently an Arvest customer, you may transfer funds from your account directly into the “Gunner Pound Medical Fund” account, if you wish. Finally, you can give your donation to any member of the police department, and he/she will forward it to the appropriate person to make the deposit.
Well, if you've made it this far, again, I have to thank you. Finally, if it is impossible for you to offer a financial gift, I am hopeful that you will take just a quiet moment each day, just a few seconds, and offer the support of prayer to Gunner and his family.
Finally, and I know this is a lot of information, and I have asked for quite a bit, but if you could find a way to share this with others in hopes of someone out there reading it that may be willing to help, I know that it would be greatly appreciated.
