SPECIAL Offer: Donate to DeadFred.com for a FREE eBOOK!

Have you ever run into a brick wall trying to track down your family tree? Are you desperate to find aother way to track them down? How do others find such success?

DeadFred.com has been helping unite over 1,090 lost photos to their families since 2001. We have over 13,797 surnames and 67,458 records, and we're growing by thousands every month!

Every day, we get dozens and dozens of e-mails from people desperately searching for their heritage online, in libraries and many other places. Some of you run into brick walls, and some of you find wild success.

We LOVE hearing about every single reunion that our visitors make! We get a thrill when we put a photo from our Archive in the mail and send it "home." And so, recently, we asked 10 of the most experienced industry experts to write about some of their creative ways to outsmart their elusive ancestors.

Together, they gave us 16 articles that are absolutely chock-full of everyday useful information. From tips on Family History Centers to step-by-step information on finding U.S. Passport applications in the LDS Library Catalog.

Most books of this caliber, when in print, run upwards of $29.95 in bookstores!

"It's a great book! I have found resources that I didn't know about, and I've been 'tinkering' with family history research for a lot of years. I use it all of the time."

"On behalf of the Family Tree Magazine editorial staff, I’m writing to tell you that we really like the Desperate Genealogist’s Idea Book—especially the title! ...As its title promises, this ebook contains a lot of good ideas. What a great way to support the Dead Fred mission!"

You know what else these experts wrote about?

  • Using vocabulary essential for preserving your family history
  • Demystifying mystery photographs
  • Receiving insights on tracing slave ancestors
  • Learning winning 10-point formula for successful genealogy research
  • Discovering clues about your ancestors by broadcasting on the Internet

DeadFred.com is currently selling this eBook online for $14.95 and has sold hundreds of downloads since we introduced it last year.

But the archivists want every one of you to learn and grow and reconnect with your lost family photos and tear down those roadblocks that have been slowing you down.

So, for our faithful readers, from March 15th to April 14th, for ANY donation of $9.95, we will GIVE you a copy of The Desperate Genealogist's Idea Book: Creative Ways to Outsmart Your Elusive Ancestors.

That's $5 OFF the normal online price and much less than comparable books available with less information!

Remember, this offer is only good for the next month from your friends at DeadFred.com.

Teaching Temperance - http://www.kidstalknews.com

Temperance, one of the universal virtues, is comprised of personal strengths that protect against excess. Studies by positive psychologists indicate that strengths in forgiveness and mercy, humility and modesty, prudence and self-regulation help us temper our thoughts and actions.

Mohandas Gandhi lived a life of temperance. Gandhi gave us the example of how temperance is a way to change the world. The study of his life can show us ways to strengthen our own character to avoid the excesses that would create a life of unhappiness.

Being able to show forgiveness and mercy to others when you have been dealt with badly shows strength of character. It takes a strong person to forgive a misdeed and not fall into the trap of revenge. It takes strength to accept the shortcomings of others. It takes confidence in your strength to give people a second chance when they have fallen short of expectations. As Gandhi said about seeking revenge, ''An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.''

Letting one's accomplishments speak for themselves, seeking the worth of every person and being able to see each person's uniqueness in the grand scheme are the attributes of humility and modesty. To be humble and to be modest in today's jargon seem to mean being easily imposed upon or submissive. True humility and modesty are terms used for servant leadership. In effective leadership, you lead by showing patience and gentility in helping others, even though you may be better educated or wealthier than those around you. Humility and modesty show a character strength that is at the core of leaders.

Being attentive to possible hazards or risks and planning for the future are the fruits of being prudent. The word ''prudence'' comes from the word providence, meaning to plan ahead or having foresight. Today calling someone a prude is a derogatory term instead of referring to a person of strength and foresight. The strength of having prudence is that one is careful about one's choices, doesn't take unnecessary risks and avoids saying or doing things that might cause hardship to oneself or others later.

Exhibiting control over one's emotions, thoughts and actions is another distinguishing characteristic of temperance. Learning to control one's moods and appetites becomes inner strength. Being able to make yourself do something you might not want to do, while knowing that in the end it is the best course of action, is the hallmark of inner or self-discipline. Being able to self-regulate gives us the ability to meet our goals and objectives in life.

Gandhi told us, ''You must be the change you seek in the world.''

If we want to help our children to have character strengths to live in a world where life is not lived an eye for an eye, we must model the self-control, the foresight, the servant leadership and the forgiveness we seek in the world.

We are currently transitioning our meeting dates to the second to the last Wednesday of every month. Due to complications with our current host we have only adjusted a few of these dates for the current year 2007. As of 2008 all meetings will be pushed back. This arrangement has been made to accommodate the many busy schedules which, at times, conflict with our meetings. We want to make sure all of you are able to attend, so check your calendars, watch for the shifts and please bear with us as we make the transition.

Planning ahead is as easy as visiting our website: Visit http://www.winnwa.com and locate the calendar in the top right, check each month's meeting date by pressing the forward arrow next to the name of the month you wish to view. NWAADC Shares Bad Things with Marc Burckhardt on March 30th, 2007

NWAADC Shares Bad Things with Marc Burckhardt
March 30, 2007 at the Dickson Street Theater
Doors open at 6:30 and event starts at 7:30.

Bad things are good for Marc Burckhardt’s creativity. Which is good for us by extension. If you’ve ever wondered what a Byzantine Icon of George Washington being eaten by a tyrannosaurus would look like, then the NWAADC has a show you must attend! If you’ve never wondered what such a thing would look like, and aren’t intrigued by the idea - then we question your status as a creative. (Hmmph.)

Marc Burckhardt picked up a pencil when he was a child, but he never stopped drawing. Today, he lives in Austin, Texas, and cannot create unless his miniature Schnauzer, Diva is present. Diverse influences such as the Mexican folk-art, Byzantine icons, Johnny Cash, and English sporting paintings lend a unique style to this historical painter of contemporary culture – who skewers consumerism and American culture with sarcasm, humor, and the occasional dinosaur fang.

His work has been commissioned by clients that include M&C Saatchi, Volkswagen, Rolling Stone, TIME, SONY Records, the New York Times, and Major League Baseball. His paintings have been exhibited at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and the Experience Music Project in Seattle. They are featured in the book “The Greatest Album Covers that Never Were,” and can be found in the private collections of Oprah Winfrey, Ralph Lauren, Rolling Stone publish Jann Wenner and the late Johnny Cash.

On March 30, the Northwest Arkansas Art Directors Club will host Marc Burckhardt at the Dickson Street Theater. Doors open at 6:30 and event begins at 7:30. $5 for Members and Students. $15 for Non-Members. STUDENT MEMBERS GET IN FREE!

Come out to the Dickson Street Theater on March 30th!

For MORE information and link to Marc's work, visit our web site at http://www.nwaadc.org

Ask about becoming a member. Joining the NWAADC will help support future speakers.

The NWAADC's mission is to educate and inspire area creative professionals and students. For more information and a list of upcoming guest speakers, visit our web site at www.nwaadc.org.
