Women in Networking Holiday Extravaganza 2008

The 2008 Women In Networking
Holiday Extravaganza!

November 19th, 2008
Doors Open: 11:00 a.m.
Price: $30 (includes lunch)
Meeting Location: Rogers, AR
Embassy Suites Hotel

The 2008 Holiday Extravaganza is just around the corner! We've set the stage, planned the luncheon and picked November 19th, 2008 as our date. Don't forget to mark your calendars and start spreading the word because the only thing missing from the Holiday Extravaganza is you.

This year we've pulled out all the stops and invited Jennifer Irwin, co-host of Magic in the Morning on Magic 107.9 to be our official Women In Networking Holiday Extravaganza emcee. In addition to working with Magic 107.9, Jennifer holds a Journalism Degree from the University of Arkansas and is the social editor of Celebrate Arkansas Magazine. She is involved in several non-profit and community organizations and currently serves on the board of directors for Life Styles, Inc. Please visit the Magic 107.9 website http://www.magic1079.com/pages/magicmornings.html for additional information and some an enlightening look into her life.

Our guest speaker and provider of entertainment this year is Jeanne Champagne. Mrs. Champagne will be demonstrating the significance of dance as a social and physical tool for enhancement of mental and physical connections between two people. Many look at dancing as attainable only if they are at the right weight or if they have the right shoes and proper clothing. These common misconceptions will be debunked through demonstration and she will show us you don't need a body like a star to step into dancing at any time of your life. If you can walk, you can dance. To help demonstrate we will be welcoming two couples to the stage to accompany Mrs Champagne and demonstrate their dancing skills allowing us to see what can be learned in only three, simple lessons.

Mrs. Champagne will be inviting couples to attend dancing lessons ranging from Ballroom to Swing to Latin. One of her main goals is to create a dancing environment that allows couples to come closer together and bring something back into the community that the atomic-age has slowly removed from our lives, a connection between each other. She hopes to make dancing even more appealing by keeping any expenses affordable, even those on a tight budget should be able to take lessons. Dance packages include six one-hour lessons for $99 with a choice of twelve different dances within the Ballroom, Swing or Latin styles.

With each successive year the entertainment and excitement only grows and we hope to see each and every one of you there. The Holiday Extravaganza is the perfect venue for networking or meeting others with similar interests. So get ready for the best event of the year.

Presenting Sponsor for the Holiday Extravaganza is East Meets West Spa and Salon®. East Meets West provides premium service and quality products for massage, skin, hair, body and nail treatments in a luxurious and harmonious environment for women, men and youth.

I.M. Spa - It's A Wrap

It's A Wrap
Your Own Personal Coccoon

The number one selling service in spas all over the world is...massage. Hands down. And for a lot of people the only reason for that (besides the fact that getting massage is the best thing on the face of the planet) is that they don't know about all the other wonderful therapies to be had.

Being wrapped like a coccoon for an hour is a great way to slow down and renew. It's like an extended yoga savasana or meditation session. It's the perfect setting for going within and extracting yourself from the neverending demands on your time.

Mud wraps are especially effective as a precursor to a Swedish massage. If you have ever had the experience of not being able to relax until you are half way through your massage then you can understand the impact a mud wrap can have in facilitating that relaxation. So that when your massage is done you feel complete, instead of feeling like you would like another hour on the table.

Until you've experienced a mud wrap, you can't appreciate the deep relaxation and detoxification that comes from the mud extracting toxins and replenishing with minerals.

And if you don't want to get covered from head to toe in mud...get a focus wrap on just your feet or back.

A full body wrap is the perfect treatment for the cool weather months.

I.M. Spa is the only mobile spa in Northwest Arkansas. Improving physical and mental health through spa therapies in your most comfortable sanctuary...your home. We look forward to providing you with the best massage and spa therapies available. Book your appointment today.

Physical Activity Enriches Young Brains

During the first six years of life, a child's brain develops based on the interaction of the child with his or her environment. Research shows that certain factors enrich the child's environment and produce positive outcomes in terms of the child's future educational level, social development and self-discipline. These factors include movement, opportunities for meaningful learning, information presented in clear and coherent ways, opportunities to control stressors, social relationships, nutrition and adequate time to learn.

True physical activity engages all the child's senses. Jumping in a water puddle creates a multi-sensory experience with the splash of water, droplets sprinkling the face, the sight of water splattering, the slosh of the foot through water, along with the squish of the mud and a spatter of water on the tongue. The jump into the water puddle fills the senses with the coolness and freshness of the air after a thunderstorm.

The child and his brain delight in the plunge into the puddle.

Our brains require activity to learn about the world and to connect new activities to previous experiences. It is this intense and joyful contact with the physical world that stimulates the brain to grow in life-enhancing directions. Peeling a banana, tasting new foods, digging in the dirt, discovering ants and rolly-pollies, feeling the tickle of a dandelion puff, landing in a pile of leaves. These types of activities create foundational experiences that keep the young brain active and engaged in life, while forming the substructure for life-long learning.

Physical activity used to explore the natural world creates a curious intellect. Questioning and investigation expand the limits of our minds.

Curiosity, and the movements accompanying inquisitive exploration, can be stilted in environments that have too many off-limits areas or are one-dimensional in their scope. Consider the child who is confined to a playpen or constantly told ''no'' as the child tries to explore his or her world. The passive single dimension of battery-operated toys, television, DVDs and computers are mind-deadening to a child whose mind and body crave multi-sensory, novel, challenging and meaningful activities, all involving movement.

For example, our modern world creates situations where children are strapped into car seats for an average time estimated to be 350 hours during a child's first two years of life. That's the equivalent of over 40 eight-hour days strapped in a car seat at a critical time of development for the young mind--a time when movement and exploration are vital to the life of a child.

Give your child as many opportunities to move and explore as possible. Make your home and backyard a place where your child is free to delight in his or her discoveries of the sights, sounds, tastes, smells and sensations of the world.

Childproof your home and yard for safety. Visit www.safensoundkids.com for ideas on how to make your home safe yet child-friendly.

Put away the battery-operated toys, computers and DVDs until your child is older than six years, a time when your child will be in a different period of development.

Help your child move, explore and discover. That's the way the brain grows.

Theo's Has New Flavored Vodkas

Try our new flavored vodkas!!

Now that Razorback football season has passed in Fayetteville, we have been keeping busy infusing two new flavored vodka recipes to accompany our pineapple and cucumber vodkas. The results are a raspberry-lime and ginger vodkas, both available anyway you like them. We spent hours trying new recipes (not as hard work as it sounds!) and think we have produced two exceptional cocktails which are sure to please any palate.

Additionally, we are currently featuring two excellent wines from Mendoza, Argentina. Paul Hobbs, the original winemaker for Opus One and a true Californian winemaking legend, has created a Caberbet Sauvignon ($45) and a Malbec ($39) which showcase the depth and character of Argentinian wines. Rich and bold, with nicely structured fruits, both wines are excellent accompaniements for many items on our menu. To view our full wine list, visit our website at www.theosfayetteville.com

Raspberry-Lime Cosmopolitan

A slight twist on the classic, this cocktail is as refreshing as it sounds. Our house-made vodka gives a touch of sweetness balanced by the citrus lime flavor.

Ginger-Mint Gimlet

For those of you who love our Basil Gimlet martini, this alternative is just as refreshing and mouthwatering. Pull up a barstool and ask one of our bartenders for this delicious drink.

Upcoming Workshops at Little Mountain Bindery

Hi everyone,
It's approaching mid-November (I can't believe it) and we have some fun workshops coming up. First, the very popular Paper Ornaments workshop is coming up in two weeks. This class fills up fast so reserve your spot today. We also have a new introductory class in leather binding (See description below). This class will be open to beginners, but will require that you purchase your own paring knife. If you want the bindery to provide these for you (cost $25), we can order them this Tuesday morning. Or you can bring your own knife.

For December, we have a great gift wrap class where you will learn to personalize your own gift wrap with various techniques. It will be a fun inexpensive way to get in the holiday spirit. We also have a new box (this class is approaching full so sign up soon!) called the double-drawer jewelry box. All of our boxes are made from bookboard, paper, and/or cloth. Boxmaking is very fun and (warning) very addictive.

To all the new people we met at the Farmer's Market this Saturday, WELCOME! We were happy to meet you all.

Just a reminder, that our deadline for Christmas book restoration has passed. However, if you still have a special book that you want to be restored, we are in the process of making cute little gift books that you can wrap and give. The book will have something printed on the inside that assures your recipient that their book is in good hands and will be finished soon.

As always, we will have gift certificates for sale. Please contact us if you would like to buy one.

Hope to see you at the bindery soon!
