Tune the Body through Chanting the Chakras

We have the opportunity to offer you a unique experience. Folk Musician, Artist, Performer and Teacher Nancy Cooper Maier will come to the RabBoar Studio for a special class:

Tune the Body through Chanting the Chakras

This workshop will help you tune your speaking or singing voice as you learn to listen to your unique sound within. Using toning, simple chanting and singing, and meditation, experience the subtle energy centers called chakras and learn to allow energy to flow freely for health, happiness, and self-expression. Beginners welcome. This is a 3 hour workshop, and sounds like lots of fun, no pun intended.

Before we commit, though, I'd like to know if we have enough people interested. Please email me something in the next 7 days if you think you would like to attend. The cost would be $25/person with refreshments afterward. If we have a good response, I'll arrange the date (probably a Saturday sometime between mid-March and mid-April -- probably closer to April at this late date). Then you will need to pre-register because we'll be having some people up from Fayetteville too -- and you know space is limited.

How cool would this be???!!!

ANNOUNCING A “DESPERATE” MEASURE FOR THE FRUSTRATED FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCHER

(Springdale, AR - February 2006) — With ancestral sleuthing being one of the most popular online activities, DeadFred Genealogy Photo Archive (http://www.deadfred.com) and a talented team of eminent genealogists have created a one-of-a-kind collection to help family history researchers, amateurs and professionals alike, overcome some of the frustrating challenges involved with hunting elusive ancestors.

DeadFred.com, a web site dedicated to connect orphaned ancestral photos with their rightful families for free, just released The Desperate Genealogist's Idea Book: Creative Ways to Outsmart Your Elusive Ancestors, a 150-page e-book filled with real-life experiences, case studies and tips from industry experts Lisa Alzo, Joe Bott, Emily Croom, DearMYRTLE, Colleen Fitzpatrick, Charlie Gardes, John Konvalinka, Megan Smolenyak, Maureen Taylor and Andrew Yeiser.

With over 16 information-packed articles on topics ranging from tracing slave ancestors and Internet broadcasting to using Family History Centers and inspecting aspect ratio to date mystery photographs, this e-book offers the “desperate genealogist” interesting suggestions for tackling research roadblocks.

Expert contributor Lisa Alzo asserted “But as genealogists we must be creative in our thinking, persistent in our execution and patient in our periods of waiting for ancestors.” Her article contributions address how she concluded a two-year search for an elusive female ancestor and solved a family history photo mystery.

The e-book is the first publishing project by DeadFred.com, a free online community revolving around a searchable database that contains more than 57,000 identified and mystery photo records for genealogy enthusiasts. The site gives visitors free access to multiple ways to connect to family members and long-lost ancestral photographs. The Archive currently has had over 667 reported photo reunions to date.

Go to www.desperategenealogist.com to learn more and purchase the e-book. Proceeds from e-book sales will go towards DeadFred.com’s operating costs, site enhancements and efforts to increase the value of the Archive for visitors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Needs Volunteers

Since 1904, the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization has been mentoring youth with positive results. The ongoing relationships established through Big Brothers Big Sisters are phenomenal. The Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce, recognizing the significance of these mentoring relationships for both the "Big" and the "Little," works with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program to recruit mentors for children in our community.

At this time, we have many youths in our area wanting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister. There are many ways to get involved, and even a lunch once a week with a student at their school will have a big impact.

You can help by putting us in touch with individuals in your workplace who might be interested in mentoring a "Little" by calling for more information.

Are you or someone you know ready for such an adventure in nurturing a young girl or boy? Find out more by contacting Taryn McGill at 479-619-3194 or at tmcgill@rogerslowell.com.

A Note from Dr. Jean

Hi Arbonne Ladies! I just wanted you to know that Arbonne just came out with a new product. It's a 2 step cellulite system called "the Figure 8 Vanish 2 step cellulite system." And I know we would all like to get rid of our cellulite. Arbonne thinks it's such a great product that they have patents pending in Switzerland and U.S. The 1st step is a cellulite scrub that you apply before you shower. It stimulates microcirculation helping to break down the pockets that are holding fat and water. Olive oil and shea butter help condition the skin and the green tea and cocoa extract act as antioxidants to fight the build up of toxins. The 2nd step contains caffeine which stimulates the breakdown of fats and horse chestnut which improves blood flow to the affected area. Overall, these 2 steps will reduce the appearance of cellulite and make the skin look smoother by toning and firming the skin. This 2 step system retails for $85.00. But with the 35% discount the cost is $55.25. I just ordered 10 systems and they should arrive here by this Wed. As with any other products you might want to buy, you are welcome to purchase these products from me at your 35% discount and I will pay for the shipping. What a deal! I expect to sell out of them fast. So if you want to reserve a set, e-mail me or call me @ 587-0227

All Sentient Beings Want Happiness and Peace

“In life we face constant change and the influx of happiness and suffering. This cycle is like waves on the ocean, one phenomenon coming after another. This neverending drama of apparent phenomena is exhausting. Without breaking this cycle of vacillating back and forth between hope and fear, stress continues mounting in our minds and bodies resulting in endless suffering, not allowing us to rest in peace and happiness. Spiritual practice is the only means to ease and transform the stress and suffering into happiness and well-being for immediate benefits and beyond.”

~Lopön Jigme Rinpoche

Last week I attended an event at Giffells Auditorium in Old Main at the U of A called “Quintessential of the Spiritual Path in Life.” Lopön Jigme Rinpoche, a prominent Buddhist Nyingma Master, delivered the public talk to an audience of 50 or so people.

He began the presentation with a long period of silence, sitting and staring ahead from behind a table with two simple flower arrangements. He prefaced his lecture by saying that he was not to speak about anything unusual. In fact he wanted to address what he considered to be commonplace concepts.

“All sentient beings want happiness and peace,” he asserted.

He described the statement as a universal truth. Simple, yes. True? I’m a believer. However, each one of us is left to contemplate how to define “happiness” and “peace.” Cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs and individual preferences influence our interpretations of those two ideas, but in essence we are all connected in that we ALL long for these same objectives in life.

He emphasized the importance of meditation—taking in and releasing breath at a normal pace, quietening the mind and orchestrating a spaciousness into which thoughts can flow in and out with freedom. He likened the mind to a pool of water. When the water is not at rest, reflection is impossible because of the constant activity and distorting ripples. But when water is still, it becomes possible to view a reflection of an image, clear as day.

He continued that the spiritual practice of meditation is a very natural way to experience inexpressible joy, the true nature of God. However, he also warned against attempting to grasp this joy. Instead he proffered to simply allow the joy to manifest within the spaciousness of our minds. He summed up the lesson with yet another pithy saying. “Rest,” he uttered. “Then manifest.”

As I was leaving the lecture I recalled a past conversation with my very good friend Amanda about the allegedly elusory quality of “happiness,” no matter how one might define it. We’d often heard others (and one another) say things like, “All I want is to be happy,” “Why can’t I be happy?” or even “If ___ happens, maybe then I could be happy.” Amanda pointed out that the problem did not so much lie in the fact that “happiness” is that evasive; instead, she believed that those who seek “happiness” and come up empty-handed every time have never really taken the time to define what “happiness” and “peace” mean to them.

It makes sense. Hitting a target is hard enough. When the target’s moving, your chances of impact become seriously compromised. Now, just think about aiming for a target that changes form constantly or worse, is completely invisible. The likelihood of a bullseye is little more than a pipe dream at best. How can we expect the universe to deliver exactly what we want to achieve happiness and peace when many of us have never really made up our minds in the first place about what it is that we’re chasing?

I asked yet another friend whether he could make a list of things to add, modify or subtract from his life in a way that at the end of the list, if he were to check everything off as “done,” he would be happy. An exercise in bottom-line happiness, if you will. He said it would take a long time to compile the list, but he definitely thought it was possible to do. It seems like a strange assignment, but why not? Perhaps even just working drafts would bring our respective happiness targets into our line of sight.

Forming this working draft, your own personal interpretation of “happiness” and “peace,” will require meditation. Quietude. Reflection. Spaciousness. But you can begin by taking the simple advice of Lopön Jigme Rinpoche: Rest. Then manifest.

The resulting manifesto will be yours to keep and to revise when necessary, a guide towards the makings of your own happiness and peace.
