Live Coverage of the Inauguration!

LOCATION CHANGE TO WILMA'S ON S. SCHOOL AVE --> PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION WATCH PARTY PLUS NETWORKING!

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: LOCATION CHANGE TO WILMA'S ON S. SCHOOL AVE --> PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION WATCH PARTY PLUS NETWORKING!

Amy Robinson of Springline was kind enough to remind me of the inauguration next Tuesday, which is happening during our time slot. In light of that news, I got a prime spot in front of the TV at Wilma's, which is just adjacent to Nightbird Books and The Mill Building. Big red restaurant across from Walgreen's. Meet us there, and let's watch history together!

Make the most of word-of-mouth marketing when you network with area businesswomen during the lunch hour. Please bring yourself and a friend (or TWO) to our monthly PWN brown-bag luncheon at Wilma's in South Fayetteville TUESDAY, January 20th, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. Please bring enough information (cards, brochures, anecdotes, etc.) to accommodate 10-12 people.

Please send your RSVP to Jeannette Balleza of Scribe Marketing, Inc., so we can be sure there are enough chairs available.

PostSecret on Exhibition in Bentonville!

BENTONVILLE, Ark., Dec. 3, 2008 – 125 W. Central Ave. in Bentonville

Frank Warren distributed 3,000 postcards to strangers on the street in November 2004 in what began as a community art project. The postcards that were returned to him were exhibited in Washington, D.C., that same year. The exhibition ended, but Warren continued to receive postcards, now totaling more than 150,000. The community art project turned into a cultural phenomenon. Warren now has a full speaking engagement calendar, has authored four books and maintains a Web site and blog.

The PostSecret exhibition features more than 400 postcards that are displayed between clear panels so they can be viewed from both sides. The secrets on the postcards range from sad to funny, brave to shocking, and the front of the postcards, in many cases, were handcrafted by their anonymous senders, making them individual works of art.

“The creativity of visual and verbal expression can create community,” said Crystal Bridges Museum Executive Director Bob Workman. “In our world that is both real and virtual, the impact of the PostSecret phenomenon may be an expression of the desire for connectivity within an increasingly isolated world.”

(Note: This exhibition will challenge our visitors and may not be appropriate for everyone. Parents might choose to preview the exhibition or preview the Web site, www.postsecretcommunity.com.)

In keeping with its emphasis on art education, the Massey will host educational Learning Experiences for the public. Among the programs scheduled in conjunction with the exhibition are gallery talks, interactive programs for children and families, documentary films, academic presentations, creative workshops and more. (Editor’s note: A full list of programs associated with the exhibition can be found at the end of this release.)

About Frank Warren
Warren posts secrets on his award-winning Web site (www.PostSecret.com), which has been viewed more than 100 million times. This international phenomenon has spawned three bestselling books with a fourth, A Lifetime of Secrets, published in October 2007. Warren has spoken at dozens of college campuses and appeared on international media including Good Morning America, The Today Show, CNN, BBC, CBC and NPR.

Hope for Arkansas

Hey Folks!

Hope for Arkansas is pleased that the Arkansas Times chose Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter as Arkansan of the Year for his advocacy of the Scholarship Lottery and the benefit it will bring to Arkansas students and families! An article about the recognition appears in this week's edition of the Arkansas Times. Lieutenant Governor Halter credits the support of countless Arkansans for making this achievement possible.
A Message From Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter:

"Everyone who helped HOPE for Arkansas qualify a constitutional
amendment for the November 4 General Election ballot knew that this was
never just about a lottery. They knew it was about our future, our
children's future and the future of our state. All Arkansans should
know that voter approval of a Scholarship Lottery could not have
happened without the extraordinary philanthropy of John and Patti
Bailey. As we move forward, I thank the Baileys and my other nominees
for "Arkansans of the Year," whose support for HOPE for Arkansas and the
Scholarship Lottery provided our state this opportunity to move
forward."

A Fistful Of Dollars: The Story of a Kiva.org Loan from Kieran Ball on Vimeo.

Kiva.org is AWESOME and the perfect demonstration of how micro-lending is a powerful tool for combating poverty. Person to person. I'd love to volunteer as a fellow one day soon. You can give loans to individual entrepreneurs in increments of $25, and it's very rewarding to see each repayment come to your PayPal account--that means the start-ups in your portfolio have received full funding, are becoming viable businesses AND achieving sustainable success! Very, very cool. Please check it out, get involved and empower entrepreneurs to dramatically improve their lives and contribute to their local economies.

Google Online Marketing Challenge

My students this spring will be part of the international Google Online Marketing Challenge. In this competition they will run a Google Adwords campaign for a real company. I am seeking potential companies who would like to participate so the students have a pool to choose from. The company must have the following:

1. A web page
2. Must not have used Google Adwords previously
3. Must be willing to meet with the students either face to face or via conference call.
4. Be willing to come to presentations on one Saturday

Please send contact information for the company and web page address if interested.

Thanks

Information for participating businesses
If you have been selected by students to promote your business in the Google Online Marketing Challenge, there are a few things you should know:

Firstly, you are under no obligation to participate. However, this is an excellent opportunity for you to receive US$200 of Google AdWords online advertising free while hard-working students analyze your business from an online marketing perspective.

Secondly, there is no cost to you. The students will receive US$200 of free Google AdWords advertising and then work with you to devise an effective online marketing campaign. They will evaluate your current online marketing, outline a strategy, run a three-week advertising campaign, assess the results and then provide you with recommendations to further develop your online marketing.

Finally, although they might suggest ways to enhance your website, students will not control or alter your website in any way. Your student team will, however, use Google AdWords to drive traffic to your website.

What do you need to do?
If you agree to participate, you should work out a convenient time to meet with your student team to explain what your business does and what you want to achieve from online marketing. Ideally, you will take an active interest in the campaign, such as providing feedback on the proposed campaign strategy, interim campaign results and campaign changes. The students do all the work but the more you help them, the more you have to gain through a successful campaign.

To find out more about Google AdWords, simply talk to your student team or visit www.google.com/adwords.

What happens after the campaign ends?
Once the campaign is over you are under no obligation to continue with AdWords. However, if you believe Google AdWords is right for your business, please talk to your students about how you can continue with their online marketing recommendations.

Good luck!
