Feed the Bird Sale at Nightbird Books This Sunday the 27th

As someone who cares about our bookstore, you are invited to the Nightbird Books Feed the Bird Sale on Sunday, February 27th from 7:00 to 9:30pm. All books will be discounted at least 10% and many will be discounted as much as 50%. Ben Bedford will be playing music throughout the evening as part of our new partnership with Hembree House Concerts. There will be a $20 cover charge, to be split between the musician and Nightbird Books. There will be door prizes and we will be giving away piles of advance reader copies of books.

Please feel free to invite your own friends who would be interested in coming. If you are part of a group that meets in the bookstore, I would be grateful if you could forward this to its mailing list.

I won't be ordering in lots of copies of the current bestsellers. However, I will happily extend the sale prices to prepaid purchases that we need to order from the warehouse.

Thank you so much-
Lisa

Apple Seeds Board Members Needed to Give Children Well-Deserved Good, Natural Foods, Healthy Activity and Joy

Apple Seeds, Inc., called today and is looking for people interested in taking a board position for terms of 6- to 12-mo. commitment. The organization needs enthusiastic people with good experience who can help with a strategic plan, fundraising document and case statement.

Apple Seeds Organizational Goals:
  • To help elementary school students make nutritious food choices and form lifelong healthy eating habits.
  • To foster a local, sustainable food system that emphasizes fresh food, good nutrition, stewardship of resources, and local economy.
The Apples in the Classroom program combines nutrition education with experiential learning about food and agriculture to help elementary school students in Northwest Arkansas make nutritious food choices and form lifelong healthy eating habits. Apple Seeds is currently partnering with Leverett Elementary School in Fayetteville to develop a curriculum and activities that will improve students' knowledge about food and its impacts on their lives, and assist teachers in meeting Arkansas state educational requirements. Once the framework and tools for this program are developed at Leverett Elementary, Apple Seeds will offer a similar program to other elementary schools in Northwest Arkansas. The Apples in the Classroom program will be tailored to the interests and environment of each school community.

The organization also coordinates Cooking Classes and Garden Clubs at elementary schools.

Do you mind please sharing this information with others you think might have an interest in pushing the organizational mission forward on a working board?
