UAMS Department of Psychiatry Seeking Individual with Psychology Background

The UAMS Department of Psychiatry is seeking two master level counselors
as part of 5-year research study funded by the National Institute of
Mental Health. The position, Anxiety Clinical Specialist (ACS), offers
a unique opportunity for individuals to be trained by national experts
in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

This national study, titled CALM: Improving Primary Care Outcomes, is
designed to assess the effectiveness of collaborative, chronic disease
management for the treatment of anxiety disorders in primary care. The
ACS will deliver cognitive behavioral therapy to primary care patients
with anxiety disorders and assist primary care physicians located at
UAMS and in other clinics in the Little Rock area in the management of
their patients with anxiety disorders.

The position is currently open to applicants and the date of hire is set
for January of 2006. Training will be conducted during the first five
to six months of the job. Medication management issues relevant to
anxiety disorders, including how to assess and monitor medication side
effects, will also be part of the training and ongoing clinical
supervision by expert psychiatrists.

This is a great opportunity for individuals with psychology backgrounds.
A master level degree in a related field and counseling license are the
only educational requirements. Interested individuals may contact
Christina Reaves-Powell at cmreavespowell@uams.edu or (501) 257-1728. A
flier for the position is enclosed for distribution at your discretion.
